Ørnsø differs from the other lakes around Silkeborg, as it largely gets all its water from Funder Å in the west and the Arnakke source in the south, which in turn gets water from the groundwater. The water supply to the river and thus to the lake is therefore very stable throughout the year. It is a nutritious lake, with a rich bird life and good fishing.
Around the lake goes a cozy path where you get from the path very close to the lake and are therefore a good place fishing. In the lake there are pike, perch, zander, sea trout, eel and various coarse fish.
