Holme Å runs over 40 km from Vorbasse to the outlet in Varde Å, and is considered the finest tributary to Varde Å.
By 2021, the lower part of the river was restored with full water flow via a large nature restoration project which has received funding from the large nature funds.
The course of the river can be divided into four stretches. At the top we have the stretch upstream Hovborg, where the river runs wild and has a healthy population of brook trout. Down towards Starup, the river runs varied, the current is fast and much of today's angling takes place on this stretch. Downstream from Starup - and especially after Puglund - the river changes character; The turns become soft and round and here the bottom consists almost exclusively of sandy bottom and the fish population is limited. Nedstrøms Haltrup was previously a mood that directed 90% of the water into the Holme Canal and further down towards Karlsgårde Lake - the artificial power plant lake from 1920. But now the canal has been emptied of water, and since the fall of 2021 the river on this stretch has run in its old course with full water flow. The stretch will find a new balance in the coming years and will probably be an important fishing, spawning and upbringing area.
Holme Å thus has the potential to become an interesting fishing water with fishing for salmon, trout and grayling.
