Mariager Fjord is unquestionably a contender for the title of most beautiful fjord in Denmark. And it would probably win. The innermost and northern parts offer incredibly picturesque bluffs majestically looking over the water. But the southern part with its high forests is not far behind in terms of natural beauty. So when fishing in either part of the fjord, you’ll find yourself in beautiful scenery. And there are fish from one end to the other. Deeper into the fjord you can find little, secret coves giving way to interesting trims and headland. In principle, you can fish all the way from Hobro northwards to Hadsund and back again to the starting point. But then you would probably have to spend several days because of the great amount of fantastic fishing spots.
The fjord transforms east of Hadsund. The water and surroundings here are more difficult, but the fish have no trouble finding their way around. They swim along the waterway and withdraw to shallower waters along the coast to forage. At times you can experience bonanza fishing if you happen upon a herd of fish.
Sea trout in hunting suits are shiny as they swim around along the coastline. When spawning season is near, they slowly change color and become golden with clear spots. But the real fjord fish are golden all year round. This is a completely unique stock of trout, which keeps to the ecosystem of the fjord. The trout with a thousand spots are breathtakingly beautiful, offer a great fight, and are worth protecting. This also means that the fish in the fjord are always somewhere in the water. They can hide, but they don’t leave the fjord except if the water gets too hot during summer. However, a few swim directly into the deep waters of the Kattegat as they leave the river and return as fat, shiny megalodons compared to the lesser fjord fish.
Some of our most interesting rivers originate in this area. The many fish from both Mariager Fjord and the Limfjord migrate northward to spawn and procreate in high numbers. Consequently, the fishing from June till the river closes is really good. An easy walk with light gear and a small spinner can be quite fruitful, but many have started to seek out the area to fish the migrating groups with foam beetles and fly rod. Fun fishing. This might be slightly too hard for the novice fly angler, but on the other hand, the fish might be so abundant that everyone has a chance. Hobro Sportsfiskerforening can be helpful regarding a fishing license.
In Rold Forest, there are several opportunities for free fishing and many other activities.
In this area, you’ll find big, rich, and intriguing lakes. Glenstrup Lake is one of the most beautiful as well as the most rich in fish. Here, chances are good for a beautiful striped perch or a camouflaged pike.
